Word Trainer

Learn Turkish words that you actually need

Turkish builds words the way other languages build sentences: evlerimizden means 'from our houses' in one word. Each root grows into dozens of forms. Word Trainer keeps the roots and the forms you meet in your course, at work and on the street, and brings them back until they come without thinking.

What makes Turkish vocabulary tricky

Suffixes do the work of prepositions, possessives and tenses, one after another: ev (house), evler (houses), evlerim (my houses), evlerimde (in my houses). Vowel harmony changes most suffixes to match the word: evde but okulda.

The verb usually goes at the end of the sentence, and its endings carry person, tense and mood, so a single word can be a whole sentence: geliyorum, I am coming. Yes-no questions are made with a separate particle: geliyor musun?

There is no grammatical gender and no definite article, which saves effort. Native Turkish roots have almost no cognates in European languages, and loanwords sit next to them: kitap (book) from Arabic, pencere (window) from Persian, otobüs (bus) from French.

How Word Trainer helps with Turkish

Word Trainer has no ready-made Turkish deck. Your dictionary is the list of words you decided to learn: from your course, your textbook, your job, the shop on the corner. Type them, paste a whole list, photograph a page or, on Android, share text from another app, and the missing translations fill in automatically.

Every word then goes through the full cycle. The Learn tab shows it next to its translation and hides more of its letters at each level until you recall the whole word. Flashcards follow, and then training: you type or say the translation, and spaced repetition decides when the word comes back. Words you get wrong return sooner, words you know fade to rare refreshers.

The app pronounces every Turkish word with a natural voice, plays your list as an audio playlist in Listen mode, and in hands-free mode listens to your spoken Turkish and checks it, so you can train on a walk with nothing in your hands.

Three tips for your Turkish entries

  • Add a root and one form you met as two entries: 'ev' and 'evde'. Harmony is learned from examples, not from tables.
  • Add verbs in the form you heard, not only the infinitive: 'geliyorum', 'anladım'.
  • Use hands-free mode: Turkish is pronounced as written, and saying the words out loud is the fastest way to make the suffixes automatic.

Frequently asked questions

How do I learn Turkish words when nothing looks familiar?

Lean on the regularity. Turkish spelling is phonetic, stress is light, and words are built from roots and suffixes that repeat everywhere. Learn the roots as entries, add a form or two as you meet them, and let spaced repetition carry the load: with few familiar words to guess from, the schedule of reviews matters more than for a language close to your own. Hearing the words with a Turkish voice in Listen mode and answering out loud in hands-free mode make the suffixes familiar faster than reading.

Can I use the word list from my Turkish course or textbook?

Yes. Paste the list into Bulk import, one word per line or 'word - translation' pairs, or photograph the page: the pairs are recognized and the missing translations are filled in. Folders keep the lessons apart, and you can train one folder or everything at once.

Does the app pronounce Turkish words?

Yes. Every word in the Learn tab, in the list and on the flashcards, has a play button with a natural Turkish voice, Auto-speak pronounces the words during training, Listen mode plays your whole list as a playlist, and hands-free mode understands your spoken Turkish answers.
